Barry gave some interesting weird facts on the Olympics. Did you know that the first Olympics took place in 776 BC. The sports featured were wrestling, discus and chariot racing. In 1900 women were allowed to take part in the Olympics. In 1896 there were only 14 countries that took part, today over 200 countries participate. The gold medals that are awarde4d are really made of silver and are gold plated. In 1924 the Winter Olympics was created.
Membership Minute: Paul Gaffney requested members continue to submit ideas for events that might build membership. There is talk of another Membership Mingle taking place at Stan’s home in Gales Ferry on the Thames River. Details to follow.

Happy Dollars: Andy Grant
Andy said he will continue to run the meals and egg cartons to Colchester in Bonnie’s absence.
Andy Nollman had happy dollars for Nancy Gentes for running the District Managed Grants. Big job. He also had a great time at the concert he attended in Foxbourgh over the weekend. He got wet but it was worth it!
Kevin Wickless will be taking an end of the summer road trip with his daughter Maddie to Denver to bring her to college. He hopes to take a detour to Mount Rushmore since he’ll be in the area. He says Maddie is less than excited to take a 500 mile detour to see it!
Susy Hurlbert said she owed Andy Grant’s staff at Ace Hardware an apology as when she and her sister were shopping there they were communicating with each other by shouting across the length of the store! She said they got some funny looks to say the least!
Mike Matera just returned from his 56th trip to Las Vegas. He said the buying trip for toys for the Tommy Toy Fund went extremely well and he found lots of good deals!
Rodney told a story of he and Lucille spending a few nights at Foxwoods on a package golf outing he had that unfortunately did not pan out as hoped. First off he could not use the meal points promised as the Guy Fieri’s at Foxwoods that ate at did not accept them. He could not play golf as there was a tournament that he did not realize was taking place. One good thing was he ate at Hell’s Kitchen and said it was excellent and one of the wait staff was a former employee of his and he and Lucille were so happy to see her!
Auction: Bill Champagne pledged $20.00
Lottery: Kathryn Tracey
Cara Westcott, Rodney Green and Cara Wesctott (again!) drew cards to no avail. Barry’s cookies were won by Mary Richardson
Program: Today program was a music lesson lead by President Rodney on singing our new Rotary Welcome song!
“WELCOME TO NORWICH OUR HOME IN MANY WAYS. WE ARE THE ROTARY WE’RE WORKING EVERY DAY. TO BUILD A BETTER COMMUNITY THROUGH SERVICE ABOVE SELF. WE’RE GLAD YOU’RE ARE HERE TODAY. WE HOPE YOU’RE GLAD AS WELL”
The first go round was sung by Rodney so we could learn the melody and was sung following by everyone a couple of times after. It sounded great and now Norwich Rotary has a song we can call our own! Thank you President Rodney!
Rodney led the club with the 4-Way Test and the meeting was adjourned at 12:44pm.
