Guests: Paul Blanchard brought Tanya Wilson, Andy Grant brought Glenn Aldrich, Suki Lagrito brought Jennifer our Rotary Exchange Student and her host Jill Fritzche.  Rodney Green brought his wife Lucille. Mayor Peter Nystrom attended and the president of the Rotary Community Corps Zach Stover.  Jeff Brining from NPU also attended and will soon join the club!

 

Visiting Rotarians: None

Ray gave the club a “Senior Exam” of 10 questions featuring questions that had answers that were not so obvious.  Just some featured were “How long did the 100 Years War last?”  It was actually 116 Years!  “What country makes Panama Hats?”  Who knew it was Ecuador!  The Canary Islands are actually named after a dog!  The Purple Finch is actually Red!  And the Black Boxes on Airplanes are actually orange!  Out of the ten questions, four were answered correctly and 3 of those were answered by Mary Richardson!

 

Announcements:

President Jim Daly had the following announcements:

  • The “No Show Gala” is just about wrapped up and the total is hovering around $9,000.
  • The Native Son program that took place June 5th honoring retired Chicago Symphony viola master Charles Pikler at the Holiday Inn was a big success.  Thank you to Kyle Muenzner and his committee for their hard work.
  • Happy Dollars committee is looking for deserving families or individuals to support.
  • If you know of anyone who would be a good speaker at one of our Rotary Meetings contact Mary Richardson.
  • June 19th will be that Change of Command at the Courtyard Marriott at 6 pm.

 

Happy Dollars: Barry Shead

  • Barry started things off saying he had a nice trip traveling to California with his daughter that took him through 14 states!  He even stood on the corner of Winslow, AZ and saw the flatbed Ford!!
  • Kevin Wickless gave to congratulate President Jim on a great year and for our Exchange Student Jennifer and her host Jill Fritzche.
  • Gary Young welcomed Zach Stover from the RCC.  Gary also had family visiting last week that kept him busy all week traveling across the region enjoying the sights.
  • Ray Baribeault is looking forward to his niece’s graduation from Plainfield High School.

 

AuctionKyle Muenzner reported a cash donation was made.

Lottery:  No lottery today.

Guest Speaker:   Jim Daly introduced our Rotary Exchange Student Jennifer from Taiwan who gave a very moving speech about her year here in Norwich.  Mayor Peter Nystrom then gave a short talk on the status of the city and retail is returning to downtown and people are looking at Norwich to invest at long last.
