1982 Norwich Native Son Dr. Eric Meyers is one of the leading archaeologists of the early Jewish and Christian period of Israel’s history.

Meyers has degrees from Dartmouth College, Brandeis University and Harvard University. Meyers has served as the president of the American Schools of Oriental Research and of the Annenberg Research Institute, and he edited the five volume Oxford Encyclopedia of Archaeology in the Near-East.

In 1981, Meyers and his wife Carol were featured in People Magazine.

His books include Archaeology, The Rabbis, and Early Christianity and, with his wife Carol L. Meyers, the Anchor Bible Commentary on the Prophets Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.

He has participated in excavations in Israel at Masada; and he directed excavations at Meiron, Kherbet Shema, and Sepphoris. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University in the field of archaeology and biblical studies.
