Announcements:

*Susy Hurlbert had the following announcements:

*Dues bills will be sent out later in January.  Please submit payment promptly.

*A resignation letter was received from Molly Bruno as she has taken a new job outside of our area.  It was accepted with regret.

*May 20th will be a “Rotary Day of Service” and our club will be doing a joint project with other area clubs that day.  It will most likely be packing meals this year.  Stay tuned as more information will come.

*The “Service Person of the Month” will be held in March.  Please make every effort to be in attendance and honor the recipient.

*Golf Tournament will be September 7th this year!

*The Rotary 4-Way Test Speech Event will be happening soon.  The Morning Club is taking the lead on this and will be soliciting members to be judges.  Please consider volunteering for this worthwhile student competition.

*The Native Son/Daughter Lunch will take place in June and our club will be sponsoring the event along with the Norwich Woman’s City Club.

*The “No Show Gala” will be returning later in January!  Plan on donating so you can spend a wonderful evening at home and not showing up to a gala!

*Susy said she was hoping Kindness Gardens will be purchased by all the Norwich Schools.  She’s still waiting for a response from the Superintendent’s office.

*Rotarians are encouraged to please invite prospective members for lunch and introduce them to the world of Rotary.

Happy Dollars: – Nancy Gentes

*Nancy started things wishing Jim Daly a happy birthday!

*Bill Champagne said after he and his wife Patrice stayed healthy for two years Patrice got sick over the holidays.  They ended up celebrating joint Christmas, Birthday’s, New Year’s all at once with the family!  Fierce competitions of card games and basketball followed!

*Andy Nollman is looking forward to next week as he’ll be on vacation in sunny, warm Florida!

*Barry Shead had happy dollars to say he’s was happy to attend today’s meeting after not being able to attend for a number of weeks because of the flu and caring for his daughter-in-law who just had open heart surgery.  She is recovering, but still requires a great deal of attention so he’ll most likely miss meeting until March or April.

*Rodney Green and his wife Lucille took a trip to Dallas, Texas over the holidays.  Rodney said he visited a restaurant supply company he worked for many years back and it’s still run by the same owners.  He also visited Austin where he met up with his brother and 55 other family members for a huge reunion.

*Mary Richardson got a text from Roz Etra saying hi to everyone and to say Gary Young is the best!

*Alexis Kahn gave $20.00 to tell a story of being at a conference where a speaker was a magician and took her $20.00 bill into a $1.00 bill!  Thankfully he magically turned it back to a $20.00 so she could give it to Happy Dollars!  She also just returned from a meeting with Angie Adams, Executive Director of the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce who passes along her best wishes.  Lastly her mother just moved to Preston from Rhode Island and actually had to pay an “exit tax!”

*Gary Young said he took Joel Etra to PT last week and it was his pleasure to do so.  He also played tennis with Stan Lucas the evening before and Stan bought a new racquet and that’s why Gary and is tennis partner lost the matches big time!  Gary was also not too keen on turning 76 the next day!

*Terry Congdon was away in Virginia over the holidays and was happy to spend time with eight of her grandchildren!

*Susy Hurlbert was happy that the raffle to benefit the Realtors Association netted $21,000!  She also had the windshield of her car smashed to pieces last week and it was replaced quickly and at no cost to her!  Good insurance!  She also wished happy birthday to all celebrating birthdays this week!

Auction:

Alexis Kahn raffled off a nice basket of nuts & chocolates from Chelsea Groton Bank.  $200.00 took the basket with Susy Hurlbert being the high bidder!

Monthly Rotary Trivia:  Terry Congdon had 3 questions regarding contents from this month’s Rotarian Magazine that Andrew Nollman knew hand’s down!

Lottery: – Terry Congdon

Stan Lucas, Gary Young & Bob Reed drew cards and did not find the allusive Ace of Spades!  Mary Richardson won the ARC cookies from Barry Shead!

President Susy led the Club and all recited the 4-Way Test and the meeting was adjourned at 12:43pm
