2008 Norwich Native Son Michael Mathieu he led several divisions and projects for founder Microsoft Bill Gates. One of his group’s numerous innovations — and his most famous — is the squiggly red line that underlines misspelled words in Microsoft spellcheck programs.
Mathieu, son of Paul Mathieu of Groton and Anne Ripley of Norwich, was class president, a star student and a state champion wrestler in Norwich Free Academy’s class of 1986. He then graduated magna cum laude from Harvard in 1990, before working for Microsoft for nine years.
He currently lives in Seattle with his wife and two children.
