Norwich Rotary Club

RONE for May 13, 2020: European trip and Guatemala water project

Presiding: President Mike Cooney.

Invocation: Lottie Scott.

Fellowship: With Ray Baribeault. He shared some musings about staying home. The last one: After years of wanting to clean my house…. and lacking time, I discovered that really wasn’t the reason.

Happy Dollars with Barry Shead

Barry was supposed to be on a Caribbean cruise from May 3-10, which didn’t happen. He then realized on May 9 his anniversary was on May 10, and was not prepared. His wife was understanding. But when Barry sent an e-card that said, “Missing You While We Are Apart,” she was a little confused.

Mike Cooney’s anniversary was on Tuesday. He got his wife a card from the Plainfield CVS and some warm socks.

Kathryn Tracy says It’s her assistant manager’s 40th birthday, and her office was decorated for the occasion.

Gary Young has been out of the house quite a bit. He went on his first Meals on Wheels route by himself. He delivers to 12 people.

Jen Granger gave an update on where she has been. UCFS is a crucial health provider and she has been busy. “It’s been a wild experience,” she said. Personally, on April 3 she got a call her father had fallen down the front stairs of his home. He bruised two ribs and had bumps and contusions. She had to move into her parents’ home to help out. For the last month she has been working with a live-in aid and family to care for her parents.

Bill Champagne: The Norwich Historical Society  has applied for a PPP loan/grant. He got some documents from Berkshire Bank, and it looks like the NHS will get the loan. Also, NHS may do a seasonal history trivia night on Zoom.

Auction: None today.

Program

The first speaker was Teala Avery. She is a senior at NFA. The Rotary contributed money to her trip to the Mediterranean, and she did a report on her trip, including the first stop in Spain. She also went to France, Italy, Vatican City and more.

The second speaker was Manchester Rotarian Rick Lawrence. Last year, at the invitation of college classmate Mike Goldblatt, he and his wife spoke to our club about a clean water initiative they are leading in Guatemala. He returned via Zoom from Florida to update the cause.

Four-Way Test: Led by Barry Shead (hey, that rhymes!).
