Norwich Rotary Club

The Rone 8/5/26

RONE

August 5th

Reporter: Mary Richardson

Presiding:  Barry Shead

Invocation:  Mandy Crispim

Fellowship:  Nancy Gentes – I’m sure that many of you remember the poem “IF’ by Rudyard Kipling.  Here is a different version:

If you can start the day without caffeine,

If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,

If you can eat the same food every day and be thankful for it,

If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,

If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,

If you can conquer tension without medical help,

If you can relax without adult beverages,

If you can sleep without the aid of drugs….

…..then you are probably the family dog!

Birthdays:  Kevin Brown and Jim O’Shea

Announcements: Barry told us that National Cookie day was earlier in the week.  He provided a packet of the ARC chocolate cookies for each of us. J

Happy Dollars:  with Barry Shead and Andy Grant

  • Barry started by welcoming our new members.  He recently attended a Herb Alpert and

the Tijuana Brass concert.

  • Bill Champagne thanked Paul Gaffney for covering the lottery last week.  Bill was taking care of Patrice who contracted shingles.  PSA – get your shingles vaccines!
  • Andrew Nollman welcomed our new members.  He’s been hitting the concert scene

pretty hard with a Billy Idol concert coming up over the weekend.

  • Nicole Sweeney welcomed our new members.  She and her family have been travelling

to Texas, NYC, and soon to Yellowstone.

  • Steve Martin welcomed our new members.  He has been playing in many golf tournaments and reminded us of Rotary golf on September 9th.
  • Mike Cooney thanked us for taking care of his guest, Mike Torres, last week.  He told us

about plumbing problems at his house that resulted in a tangle with the kitchen ceiling

fan.  No emergency room trip was needed and the kitchen looks lovely.

  • Roz Etra says that music is the best medicine.  Her Klezmer music group plays “Jewish

          Jazz.”

  • Stan Lucas modeled his new wallet with chain and skull image.  He’s had to upgrade

to this after being pickpocketed in Rome recently.  Beware when going to the money

exchange as that is where pickpockets may pick their next victim.

  • Andy Grant welcomed new members.  He has offered a challenge – a $25 Ace Hardware

gift card to any club member getting a tee sign or foursome for the Rotary golf

tournament on September 9th!

Lottery:  Very suspenseful as there were only three cards remaining.  Paul Gaffney and Mike Matera did not choose the Ace of Spades.  But Bill Champagne did!  The cookies went somewhere.

We closed the meeting with The Four Way Test.
