Norwich Rotary Club

The RONE for July 13, 2022

  • Club President Susy Hurlburt brought the club to order promptly at 12:15. Or thereabouts.
  • Gary Young, pinch hitting for Lottie, delivered another sterling extemporaneous invocation.
  • There were no Rotarian birthdays.
  • Nancy Gentes marked 17 years as a club member. Huzzah!
  • Gary Young introduced his guest, Pietro Camardella.
  • For Fellowship, Barry Shead edified the club with a variety of interesting facts aboutĀ  the Battle of Gettysburg. Rather than enumerate them here, visit sites such as https://www.historyhit.com/facts-about-the-battle-of-gettysburg/ .
  • Announcements delivered by President Susy: Artreach thanked the club for its $500.00 contribution; The Golf Tournament is scheduled for September 7; an Amber Alert is tentatively scheduled for July 23 at the Yantic firehouse; A recounting of that morning’s board meeting highlights included the tabling of action on the club budget for the new fiscal year; discussion of the purchase of (approximately $20,000) an impressive street clock with the Rotary logo. Discussions with the city Monuments Committee were positive with a possible location at H.T. Brown Park to their liking. A majority of club members reacted positively to idea of raising funds for the clock project.
  • Happy Dollars with someone whose name I failed to record. Bill Champagne commented on the death and legacy of former member Linda Salafia and her contributions to the club and the community. Jim Daly thanked past past president Andy Nollman for his service to the club wished Susy well in term term as president and welcomed Gary’s guest, Pietro. Kevin Wickless recounted Linda Salafia’s many attributes as Judge of Probate and offered encomiums for Andy Nollman, Susy, and Pietro. Jeff Brining enthused about sailing and a most satisfactory softball season. Gary Young thanked Pietro for attending the meeting, noted that there would be a putting contest following the meeting and encouraged everyone to bid on the stunning array of sports memorabilia assembled at the back of the room. Molly Bruno described the success of the Facebook post and the $50 raised by the putting contest at Rock the Docks. Andy Nollman offered laurels to Molly for the quality of the Facebook post. It even elicited a $150.00 contribution from his brother-in-law! Susy recounted her time inĀ  Washington, DC for CT Realtors Leadership Conference and the auguries for the housing market and economy.
  • Lottery the results were unfavorable for Jim Daly and Molly (x2). Fortune proved more benign for Andy Grant, who won the cookie auction and selflessly shared them with the club.
  • There was no auction, with Andy Grant donating $25.00. The meeting ended with a flawless recitation of the Four Way Test.
