Susy’s fellowship was on the origins of Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day in the United States has its origins in the 1900s, primarily due to the efforts of Anna Jarvis, who sought to honor her mother’s legacy and advocate for a day to celebrate all mothers. While the holiday has roots in earlier traditions, Anna Jarvis is credited with establishing the modern Mother’s Day and pushing for its national recognition. Anna Jarvis tirelessly campaigned for national recognition, and in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.

Happy Dollars: Barry Shead
Barry Shead started things off saying that he celebrated a birthday over the past weekend and had his entire family together for the occasion. Barry also reminded that the ARC Film Festival will be held on May 8th at the Woodstock Academy. 4 films will be shown and the event includes heavy Hors d’oeuvers.
Andrew Nollman had $10.00 happy dollars to say what a great time he had camping with his wife last week even though some of the time it was pretty wet out! He said the sun did come out enough to get sunburned!

Pat Marshall said State workers were in to her place of employment doing an audit and they passed with flying colors!
Mike Matera said that he is taking his dad to a gym in New London that has been helping him with Parkinson’s. He’s also happy to be ahead of the curve with spring projects seeing as his yard is in good order as well as his boat is in the water! He’s currently at the Marina at American Wharf on C-Dock, 08W if you want to stop by for a drink!
Mike Cooney was proud of himself for chain sawing a dead tree in his yard! He also said his busy golf season is off to a start.
Susy Hurlbert gave $10.00 to remind everyone that there were no women in Rotary prior to 1987. She also told that her bruising on her face was not as a result of domestic violence. She was very sick and fainted in her bathroom and took out a towel rack with her face. She went to the hospital and spent an interesting night there.
Margarida Martins-Querido said she received a call from her son in Maine saying that he wason his way to the ER with extreme back pain. Thought it might have been Gallstones but it was Septic Pneumonia which is very serious. Her birthday was Sunday and all she wanted was for him to get better. The doctor said that he was lucky to have arrived at the hospital when he did or the result could have been much worse.
Cary Trantalis said there are contractors at the Sheltering Arms to try to find a time capsule that is buried there. They are using special equipment to try to locate it. On May 21st at 7:45am they are having a special ceremony that all are invited to attend to see what’s inside it.
