Frank Murdy, 10th Norwich Rotary Club President

Frank Murdy was the 10th President of the Norwich Rotary Club, serving in 1929-30.

Known commonly as F.R. Murdy, he was born in Dedham, Massachusetts on September 4th, 1875. The son of, Samuel and Mary Ann (Welch) Murdy, he attended Lehigh University.

In 1897, he married Elizabeth Lilly in Dedham. The couple’s first child, Francis was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1898. Another son, George was born in 1900, followed by Charles in 1904 and daughter Margaret in 1907.

In 1907, Murdy was an assistant with the Providence office of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He first came to Norwich in 1910, before being transferred in 1917 to Roxbury, Massachusetts.

Murdy took over the Norwich office of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in July of 1920.

Frank Murdy passed away on February 4th, 1933.
