Nominations Sought for 2024 Norwich Native Son-Daughter Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Norwich Rotary Clubs, in conjunction with the Norwich Woman’s City Club is seeking nominations for the 2024 Norwich Native Son/Daughter Award. This award, which was first presented in 1968 as part of the Rose Arts Festival, has been awarded to an impressive list of Norwich natives.

We’ve had Pulitzer Prize winnersGrammy Award winnersNCAA basketball coachesdoctorsteachersgenerals, and ambassadors. We’ve honored NFL playersbrewers, and even the man who invented spell check. We even had the guy who helped launch the careers of comedians like Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld. It’s truly an impressive list of honorees.

Now it’s time to add another impressive Norwich native to that list.

The requirements for nominees are:

  1. a. Been either born in Norwich or to parents who were residents of Norwich at the time of the nominee’s birth and
  2. b. Lived in Norwich during most of his/her life through high school. Persons who were born to parents residing in a bordering town at the time of that person’s birth may also be nominated, providing all of the following criteria are met in full:
  3. The nominee moved into Norwich before beginning first grade, and
  4. Continued to reside in Norwich through high school
  5. The nominee must also agree to receive the award in person at the Native Son/Daughter Award Luncheon in Norwich in the May/June timeframe.

The deadline for nominations is March 13, 2024. Please include the nomination form, and other materials, such as newspaper stories that support the nomination.
